CMDLearn ·

In short: this page lists all 14 chapters of the NCERT Class 10 Mathematics textbook (Reprint 2026-27) in the book's order, with the page each chapter starts on and our guides for it: questions with worked answers for every chapter, a step-by-step explanation for three of them, and notes in Hindi for the first nine. At the end are 8 quick questions, one idea each from eight chapters, to check yourself before you open a chapter guide.

The questions on this page and in the chapter guides are our own, drafted with AI help. Every answer was checked against the textbook pages named under it, but no practising teacher has reviewed them yet. If you find a mistake, please tell us.

How to use these guides

  1. Work through the chapter's examples in the textbook first, then try our questions on paper before you open each answer.
  2. Mark the page. Every answer in our guides names the textbook page it comes from, so you can go back to the exact method when you get one wrong.
  3. Check the marks. Which chapters carry the most marks, and how the board paper is laid out, are in our syllabus guide and sample paper guide.

8 quick questions to check yourself

Question 1 (Chapter 1). Two numbers have HCF 4 and LCM 120. One of them is 24. What is the other?

Answer: 20. For any two positive integers, HCF × LCM equals the product of the two numbers. So 4 × 120 = 24 × (the other number), and the other number is 480 ÷ 24 = 20. Check: 24 = 2³ × 3 and 20 = 2² × 5 give HCF 2² = 4 and LCM 2³ × 3 × 5 = 120. (HCF and LCM, page 4.)

Question 2 (Chapter 2). Find the zeroes of x² − 11x + 30, and check that their sum and product fit the coefficients.

Answer: 5 and 6. x² − 11x + 30 = (x − 5)(x − 6), which is 0 when x = 5 or x = 6. Sum 5 + 6 = 11 = −(−11)/1, and product 5 × 6 = 30 = 30/1, as the relation between zeroes and coefficients says: sum = −b/a, product = c/a. (Zeroes and coefficients, page 20.)

Question 3 (Chapter 4). What kind of roots does 9x² − 30x + 25 = 0 have? Find them.

Answer: two equal real roots, both 5/3. The discriminant is b² − 4ac = (−30)² − 4 × 9 × 25 = 900 − 900 = 0. A discriminant of 0 means two equal real roots, each −b/2a = 30/18 = 5/3. Indeed 9x² − 30x + 25 = (3x − 5)². (Nature of roots, page 45.)

Question 4 (Chapter 5). What is the 20th term of the AP 7, 11, 15, 19, …?

Answer: 83. Here a = 7 and d = 4, and the nth term is a + (n − 1)d, so the 20th term is 7 + 19 × 4 = 7 + 76 = 83. (The nth term, page 57.)

Question 5 (Chapter 7). How far apart are the points (6, 2) and (13, 26)?

Answer: 25 units. By the distance formula, √[(13 − 6)² + (26 − 2)²] = √(49 + 576) = √625 = 25. (Distance formula, page 100.)

Question 6 (Chapter 8). In triangle ABC, the angle at B is a right angle, AB = 28 cm and BC = 45 cm. Find AC, sin A and cos A.

Answer: AC = 53 cm, sin A = 45/53, cos A = 28/53. By Pythagoras, AC² = 28² + 45² = 784 + 2,025 = 2,809, so AC = 53 cm. For angle A, BC is the side opposite, AB the side adjacent and AC the hypotenuse, so sin A = 45/53 and cos A = 28/53. (Trigonometric ratios, page 114.)

Question 7 (Chapter 11). A sector of a circle of radius 35 cm has an angle of 72°. What is its area? (Take π = 22/7.)

Answer: 770 cm². Area of a sector = (θ/360) × πr² = (72/360) × (22/7) × 35 × 35 = (1/5) × 3,850 = 770 cm². (Area of a sector, page 155.)

Question 8 (Chapter 14). A bag holds 30 tokens numbered 1 to 30, and one is taken out without looking. What is the probability that its number ends in 0 or 5?

Answer: 1/5. The numbers ending in 0 or 5 are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30: 6 of the 30 equally likely outcomes. P = 6/30 = 1/5. (Theoretical probability, page 203.)
