A worked example
Find the square root of 576 using prime factors.
- 576 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 = 2⁶ × 3².
- Pair the equal factors and take one from each pair: 2³ × 3 = 8 × 3 = 24.
Answer: √576 = 24. Check: 24 × 24 = 576.
The common mistake
Treating the square as doubling and the cube as tripling: 15² is 15 × 15 = 225, not 30, and 6³ is 6 × 6 × 6 = 216, not 18.
